Pilates

Pilates is a unique system of lengthening and strengthening exercises developed by Joseph H. Pilates over seventy years ago. It strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, provides flexibility and balance, unites body and mind, and creates a more streamlined shape.

The Pilates philosophy is based on training the mind and body to work together to create balance. We attempt to reawaken our body through movement and our mind through conscious thought. The combination results in the extra plus of Pilates:
“a revitalization of spirit that is a crucial factor in maintaining good health and a sound mind and body.”

Why is Pilates so popular today? Because it works.

Using a meditative, calming approach to exercise, similar to yoga, with the energy and movement of dance and the strength-training regime of Pilates.

Truly a balanced workout!

The first and biggest hurdle in exercise is believing that “You Can”. Believing in yourself is the key to being able to change your body from using one particular body part to walk, stand and exercise into using your body as one integral unit to create flow of movement.

Pilates Classes

Beginner – Fundamentals/Level One Pilates Mat Class – appropriate for those discovering Pilates for the first time.
Learn the fundamentals and beginner exercises with modifications and explanations of the principles of Pilates. Taught in the traditional, classical method designed by J. H. Pilates to strengthen and lengthen transmitting force from your “powerhouse” (center/abdominals) for full body vitality.

Intermediate – Level Two Pilates Mat Class
(It is recommended for students to attend private sessions and/or beginner sessions before moving on to Intermediate mat classes) Building on the foundation of Beginner/Level One Pilates Mat, adding more exercises with more advance cueing. Modifications still explained when applicable.

Advanced Pilates
The most demanding of all workouts. This class challenges with intensity, vocabulary, rhythm and flow. Sometimes super-slow focusing on precision and other times very fast-paced. For strong, experienced clients acquainted with the Advanced Mat order.

Private Pilates Training

Private Pilates sessions are the most effective way to learn the fundamentals, practicing with control and stability, and perfecting Pilates performance. Joan devotes her undivided attention to a student's specific needs and develops a customized program to produce your own optimum results.

A full body workout to develop strength, flexibility, and balance with personal instruction in a private setting.

A series of challenging, well-balanced movements. A pure workout that will challenge your body and focus your mind, while building long, strong and flexible muscles.

Duet Sessions
You and a friend receive personalized instruction simultaneously. For similar fitness levels.

C.H.I.S.E.L

C.H.I.S.E.L. is a programme that Joan developed which incorporates aerobics and strength based on Pilates principles, followed by Pilates and yoga. C.H.I.S.E.L. is one of the most comprehensive workouts available today.

C.H.I.S.E.L (n) - stands for Create Huge Improvement, Strength, Endurance, and Leaness.

It is a unique blend of fast-paced medium to high intensity aerobics, strength training and Pilates utilizing core strengthening fundamentals all through the session. You will sweat and have fun with this results-driven workout.
